“Aufgetischt – Served”! – was the motto of the Sprachtreff in Wülfrath when Katrin Lütjen from the European University of Flensburg came to visit to watch the new game box of the Federal Center for Nutrition in action. The volunteers and refugees tested the various games with a lot of zeal and learned not only German but also a lot about healthy eating. Whether memory, domino or action based games – the game box can be used for any age and language level. During Sprachtreff it is often used because of its diversity, sometimes by adults, sometimes by children. Sometimes new original game ideas are developed additionally. The players, for example, fill an imaginary shopping basket together, discuss recipes for dinner or hold conversations about differences regarding foods in Germany and their respective home countries.

“Aufgetischt – Served” is a compilation of 15 tabletop games that encourage the learning process for German. Reading, writing and conversation events on everyday topics about eating and drinking help to expand vocabulary, formulate sentences and get to know new food. The Federal Center for Nutrition issues the game box as part of IN FORM – Germany’s initiative for healthy nutrition and more exercise.
