After work at the Sprachtreff Wülfrath the volunteers had invited to a colourful evening celebrating the start after the summer holidays. Nearly 30 attented. As of now German can be practiced again three times a week in the Kulturkirche.

With high spirits and delicious food for the final joint buffet, visitors flocked to the Sprachtreff. Volunteers and refugees had not seen each other for a long time during the summer holidays and had thus a lot to catch up on. The pre-learned German skills could also be refreshed, through stimulating discussions or group based games. One participant proudly reported that she had meanwhile found employment in the kitchen of the Bergische Diakonie Aprath and now wants to quickly learn the associated kitchen vocabulary. She found what she was looking for in a book and can now practice together with a language mentor. Another was looking for material to prepare as well as possible for the B1 exam. Another wants to work again in his job as a painter, but “first must my German be better”. With a special book about construction, he now wants to familiarize himself with the German occupation-specific vocabulary in addition to his German course in the Sprachtreff.

The highlight of the evening was the ample buffet, to which everyone had contributed something. The Syrian, Iraqi and Russian specialties especially delighted the German guests, because for many of them these dishes were a new experience. The refugees were fascinated by the taste of the German dishes as well as the names. So at first the “marble cake” was eyed critically, before the smell of chocolate invited to taste and the cake was praised extensively.

During discussions about the different dishes and the exchange of recipes, the guests of the Sprachtreff concluded the evening and agreed that this would not have been the last colorful evening.
