Dialogue, orientation and convergence are the goals of the EU-funded project “Sprachtreff – for integration in the countryside”.
One of these “Sprachtreffs” has now begun at the “Jugendcafé” (Youth Café) in Marpingen. Here, refugees have the opportunity to meet with Speaking- and Reading-Mentors, to find out more about certain professions, to practice occupation-related vocabulary or to borrow job-related materials.

The information evening on the 13. November 2018 was attended not only by newly arrived migrants and volunteers, who teach at the “Jugendbüro” (Youth Office), but also by interested employers. They were introduced to the project by Anna Hell of the “Jugendbüro” and Petra Philipczyk, who monitors the location in Marpingen as the volunteer coordinator of refugee work of the Diakonie Saar. This first get-together already led to lively exchanges between those present: discussing wishes, suggestions and even internship possibilities.

This way, the newly arrived residents have a big incentive to practice their language abilities and to strengthen and expand their current knowledge. At the “Sprachtreff” Marpingen they will have the ability to do so three times a week. Volunteers are there to help them if needed.
